Talking NFL on The Jim
Rome show on Easter Friday. Listen now!
Wow! This was big. I was lucky to get through and on his show yesterday and
I talked about the time I tried to hunt down and interview Brett
Favre. Refer below March 8 report on NFL webWORLD
Click
here.
I also talked about the Denver Broncos along with
saying NFL is the equal best game in the World along with Aussie Rules Football.
I talked about how Darren Bennett changed the NFL the way NFL punters now punt
using the Aussie Rules Footy drop punt when they need to land the ball inside
the 20 yard line. I also talked about Aussies Mat McBriar, Ben Graham and Sav
Rocca currently punting in the NFL along with how the Pittsburg Steelers punter
Daniel Sepulveda who is from the USA learnt and
effectively uses the Aussie drop punt.
I
believe Jim Rome has about 5 million listeners daily. He is the biggest sports
radio guy in USA with his show going to many USA markets. Many places in Canada
also carry his daily 3 hour sports radio show. I met Jim Rome at the Super Bowl
Media centres in 03 and 04 and thus I believe this is a reason why I got through
and thus got on his very popular sports radio show yesterday. Next time I need
to slow down a bit and realize that the large USA audience is not used to my
Aussie accent. I tend to get very excitable and passionate when I talk sports on
USA and CDN radio especially when I talk about Aussie Rules Footy.
I just
subscribed to his online pod cast to re listen and I was on for 3 minutes
without him interrupting at all. He bagged me a bit after the 3 minutes
saying "I didn't understand Myk, I heard about Brett Favre and Darren
Bennett." but then he said "No Myk I did understand you. That was Myk for
3, 5, 8 minutes however long that was and yes we do see Myk down at Super
Bowl's in the Media Centre. That was Myk Aussie in Calgary". If you are a
subscriber or wish to subscribe to his great radio show I was on in the

From the Broncos Media this week. Denver Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith,
the club's all-time leader in every major career receiving category and a
key member of their back-to-back Super Bowl championship teams, was
placed on the Broncos' reserve/retired list on Friday.
Smith played all 13 of his professional seasons with the Broncos after
joining the team as a college free agent from Missouri Southern
University on May 3, 1994, and posted 849 career receptions for 11,389
receiving yards with 68 touchdowns in 183 games. His career totals for
receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns are the most by an
undrafted player in NFL history, and he ranks seventh and eighth,
respectively, in career games played and started by a Bronco. For more on

I am very confident in saying
Broncos have in 07
1) A excellent Defence. Including our 2 great Corners will make it hard for
opposition to score long TD's.
2) A very good Oline again.
3) A very good RB again this time Travis Henry.
4) 3 very good WR's. Javon Walker and Brandon Marshall at approximately 6'5"
looks very good. Brandon Stokely is a good addition. Rod Smith the Champ will hopefully be back as well.
5) A very promising QB in Jay Cutler. The guy looks very strong. He made a
couple of mistakes against the Bills but he threw some unbelievable passes.
If Cutler plays well I believe we will challenge Patriots and Colts for
AFC Championship. If Cutler plays very well we can go all the way. Any

From the Bronco's media.
The Denver Broncos on Friday acquired defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy in a
trade with the St. Louis Rams, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. In
exchange, Denver sent St. Louis an undisclosed pick in the 2008 NFL
Draft.
To make room for Kennedy on its roster, Denver waived
first-year cornerback Eric Hill. Kennedy (6-foot-4, 320 pounds) is a
fifth-year player who has spent the last four seasons with St. Louis. The
Rams selected him in the first round (12th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft
from Penn State University.

Bronco's are back! What a great game it was Sunday night as the
Bronco's defeated the New England Patriots 17 to 7. I had a great time
and in the end a Big night at The Melrose in Calgary watching the game.
I'm not sure why but some people including Moose are writing the
Bronco's off this year. I believe Jake Plummer will now have another
very good year and now he has another great receiver in Javon Walker to
throw to. Javon the former Green Bay Packer scored 2 TD's on Sunday
night. Great to see Rod Smith the WR Champ is still playing at 36 years
young. In what I thought was a tough week of tipping I ended up with 10
out of 14.

From
Moose "Denver Broncos, 47th season. Six Super Bowl Appearances, two wins
in John Elway's last two tries. 2005 Record: 14-4-0. Coach: Mike
Shanahan. QBs: (?) Bradlee Van Pelt (who should be starting), Jake (the
flake) Plummer, Jay Cutler. Players lost to F/As: too many to count!
Other Key players: Ss John Lynch, who may move to outside LB, WRs Brandon
Marshall, Rod Smith (one of the last links to the good old days), Ashlie
Lelie [Univ. Hawai'i], K Jason Elam [Univ. Hawai'i], OE Javon Walker, TE
Tony Scheffler, DE Kanard Lang.
Let's see; they lost Off. Coordinator Gary Kubiak to his native Texas to
Coach Houston; they lost TE Jeb Putzier (that'll REALLY hurt) also to the
Texans, they lost two 1,000+ RBs to Cleveland and Jacksonville, both
AFC Conference opponents. Need I go on and what do they do in the first
round of the NFL draft? They waste a number one pick on a potential third
string QB, who played in a bad system (5-6) last year at that potential
barnburner, Vander(friggin')bilt!
Have the Broncos finally flipped out? Has Mike Shanahan lost his marbles?
They have a perfectly good backup QB in Bradlee Van Pelt. They have
running game left and had to draft a TE to replace thee potential
superstar they just lost with their Ast.H.Coach. Makes a lot of sense,
eh? This is one of the saddest cases in NFL history unless the nobodies
suddenly jell into a cohesive unit. Are the Broncos watering their lineup
down on purpose? Are they playing for the lottery (Whopps, that's the
NBA)?
Aside from Lang, Lynch, who is any good on that 29th ranked Defence?
Plummer looked like the second coming of Elway v. New England in the
playoffs in one week and looked like the worst QB on planet earth v. the
Stealers. What gives? Every since Jake gave the fans the finger several
years ago he keeps growing his hair and beard but forgot how to QB.
Prediction: Myk will hate me for this but third AFC West, 6-10-0 or
7-9-0, no playoffs. I got to call 'em like I see 'Em!” Moose

select Jay Cutler! It seems Broncos coach Mike Shanahan wants a

The Bronco's could be
in the running for signing Terrell Owens. Wow! That would be
awesome! They have cleared some cap room recently by waiving three
great players defensive end Pro Bowler Trevor Pryce, running back Mike

as I kick a goal on Mile High Stadium after interviewing some of the
Champ Bronco's including current Wider Receiver Rod Smith. Rod was the
friendliest guy in the rooms. Go Bronco's!
I went 3 out of 4 in this
weeks tips.
AFC the stronger Division - Wow! What a great weekend of NFL
Divisional playoffs it was! It was fantastic that my #1 team the
Denver Bronco's defeated the Pat's the reigning Super Bowl Champs
27 to 13 at the new Mile High Stadium. This win ended Tom Brady's
amazing run of 10 playoff wins in a row and no looses. What a great
effort by the Patriots over the past 2 years winning back to back Super
Bowls and then this year still going so far after suffering many injuries
in the 1st half of the season.
Even though I am not a Steelers fan at all I
was in some way hoping they would win as it would mean the Bronco's
getting another home game instead of facing the Colts in Indy. After
Sundays game I respect the Steelers immensely.
Some controversial calls seem to go the Colts way as well. Then when the
game seemed to be won by the Steelers Jerome Bettis fumbled on the 2 yard
line when it seemed a certainty the Steelers would win and then Colts
kicker Mike Vanderjagt the Canadian and the most accurate kicker in NFL
history missed a field goal that would have sent this great game into
overtime. I could go on and on about this game.
Bronco's MYKwebTV. One of the greatest times I have ever had was
web sports casting a game from Mile High Stadium in Denver a few years
back. I lived in Winter Park the closest big ski resort to Denver in the
early 90's and thus the Bronco's became my #1 team. Especially if you are
a Broncos fan you should enjoy this MYKwebTV show as I am in the Bronco's
locker rooms after a Big win in overtime against the Seahawks. I then
just had to get the Aussie Rules Footy out and kick a goal on the famous

New
1,000+ yard RB from the new gang (since Terrell Davis left, it’s been
‘Raid
the Broncos backfield during Free Agency period’, time every offseason).
If Jake (The Finger) Plummer can hold it together [let’s live in a
world of reality folks,
NOBODY can replace John Elway!] and still improve enough to adjust
to his
new teammates, the list goes on. The natives are getting restless in Mile
High City. And with good reason. Kansas City had a monster draft and San
Diego,
well, is coming off a monster year. At WR Shanahan hopes Jerry
(Six
Super Bowls) Rice can get by for one more year. Smith is still playing
at a
fine rate, and it helped when Lelie, another ex-Hawai’I Warrior on this
team,
moved over to Smith’s old spot last year, and Smith moved to retired
Ed
McCaffery (four Super Bowl wins) spot. It took pressure off Plummer
and the
Broncos were clicking early on with the rapid development of new
TE
Putzier, who quickly moved past Hape, the TD catcher, on the depth chart.
Putzier
may make the Pro Bowl this year as Plummer likes to roll and throw
to the
Tes. Pity poor Jake, with the Elway comparisons and all, and the late
season
meltdown when he gave the fans the ‘finger’ in a loss to Kansas City.
The Offencive Line continues to lose vets from that Super Bowl squad of
just six
years ago. It seems like much longer. Elway retired, started an Internet
mvpchamps.com
deal with Larry Bird and Wayne Gretzky that bombed, got divorced
from longtime wife Janet and then took over the operations of Pat
Bolen /
Stan Kronke’s Arena League team that just won the Championship of
that
League two months ago. The Broncos are slipping just a bit, but some good
trades
(Champ Bailey from Washington at CB for disgrundled RB Clint Portis)
and
smart drafting have kept the Broncs competitive. Plummer almost pulled
an upset
in Indianapolis last Post Season, if it hadn’t been for a flat 3rd
quarter and
some questionable Refs calls. The Broncos don’t need to panic – yet.
This team
still has enough weapons and the Defence is still first rate. Coverage on
Special
Teams and Returns are good, but the Broncos probably should have signed
Mat
McBriar and kept him as Punter several years ago. No matter, Second place
AFC
West, to Kansas City and just ahead of San Diego, who has lost a ton of
free
Agents. Predicted Finish, loss in second round of AFC playoffs, 10-7-0
Record."

Plummer will get better in the system but the potential injury situation

Miami Dolphin's team doctor. Kanell got TOO much playing time after fine
vet
Steve Beuerlein got hurt. The rookies BETTER NOT get any playing time or
the Broncos could be in trouble.
At WR, ex-Hawai'i Warrior (NCAA) Ashley Lelie is starting to come on
strong, which is good because Rod Smith is starting to slow down and the
great (big) Ed McCaff- rey is now retired and going to Colorado Rockies
and Denver Nuggets games and playing 'Mr. Mom' fulltime. Depth includes:
Willie Jackson, Adrian Madise and Atnaf Harris. With loudmouth/great TE Shannon Sharpe (three Super Bowl rings) in the
CBS studio now, Pat Hape, who 'only catches TDs' and Jed Weaver hold the
fort. The Offencive line got rid of dud Len Friedman and loaded up with
Jain Stephens and Cooper Carlisle, who could block out the sun. They
better be able to block out Ted Washington and Warren Sapp! The rest of
the line is solid vets: Dan Neil, Tom Nalen, former ArenaBoxl vet Matt
Lepsis and Ben Cooper,
once one of NFL E's best. The Defencive Line is loaded too with Marco
Coleman, Trevor Pryce, Luther Elliss, Luis Almanzar, who played at the
same High School as NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
At linebacker
the Broncos will miss Ian Gold but still have fine players in: Patrick
Churwurah, John Mobley (who's cousing Singor stills plays for Edmonton-CFL), Jashon Sykes and Terry Pierce, who are
all young and athletic. But no Mark Fields and Dan Morgans amongst them.
The secondary around Lynch includes the best coverage trio around in
Charles (Champ) Bailey, Ron Isreal, Jimmy Spencer and Safties Chris
Young, Sam Brandon and Lenny Walls, a converted CB/KR. The Special teams
is the best in the League, as a unit with another ex-Hawai'i star in
Jason Elam, who
was the last NCAA Punter/Kicker/Kickoff triple hat man. His range is
three area codes.
The Punter, who barely beat out priority free agent of last summer, Mat
Mc Briar, in Micah Knorr, who is great at kickoffs himself and is a fine
holder. The coverage and return games are solid, consistant and can break
long returns once in a while. Denver WILL NOT win the Division over
Loaded Kansas City, despite the Chiefs losing game-breaker WR Marc
Boerigter for the regular season (at least). But they have enough to win
11 or 12 games and make one more run at the Super Bowl. I'll take the
former. Predicted finish: 11-5-0, 2nd AFC West." Moose

Running Back Billy Clinton Portis, Patriots Linebacker Tedy Bruschi &
Colts Kicker Mike Vanderjagt names AFC Players of Week 14" Myk

Compliments
of nflmedia. Running
back CLINTON PORTIS of the Denver Broncos, linebacker TEDY BRUSCHI of the
New England Patriots, and kicker MIKE VANDERJAGT of the Indianapolis
Colts are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the
Week for games played the fourteenth week of the 2003 season (December
7-8), the NFL announced today.
Denver’s
Portis became the sixth player in NFL history to rush for five touchdowns
in a game as the Broncos defeated the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs
45-27 and regained control of their own playoff destiny with an 8-5
record. Portis carried the ball 22 times for 218 yards, good for a
per-carry average of 9.9 yards. Portis’ 218 rushing yards are the
third-most in the club’s 44-year history.
The
second-year rusher from Miami scored on runs of 11- and 1-yard(s) in the
first half, but the Broncos still trailed 21-17 at intermission.
The second half was a 30-minute Portis fireworks show with 188 rushing
yards on 11 carries (17.1 average) and touchdown runs of 59, 28, and 53
yards. Portis was removed from the game with 8:08 left in
regulation after his 53-yard scoring sprint provided a 45-21 Broncos
lead.
“Our
offensive line kind of took it personally that everyone was always
talking about the Chiefs’ offensive line, and how great they open holes
for [Chiefs running back PRIEST] HOLMES,” says Portis. “They
went out and opened holes for me that anyone could have run through.
So I take my hat off to our offensive line.”
Portis’
188 rushing yards in one half is a new club record and leaves him only 52
rushing yards shy of becoming the third player in NFL history to post
1,500 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons, joining Pro
Football Hall of Famer ERIC DICKERSON and EDGERRIN JAMES of the
Indianapolis Colts.
For
Portis, the 2002 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, this is his first
Player of the Week Award.
New
England’s Bruschi has a habit of making big plays. In a game
between the top two clubs in the AFC East, the Patriots held a 3-0
advantage over Miami midway through the fourth quarter. The
Dolphins took possession on their own four-yard line with 8:59 remaining
when on first down, Bruschi snared a sharp pass fired by the Miami
quarterback and returned it five yards for the game’s only touchdown in
a 12-0 New England win. Bruschi also registered six tackles on the
day as the Patriots limited the Dolphins’ offense to only 134 total
yards.
The
victory earned the Patriots their sixth AFC East division title and
currently places the club as the AFC’s No. 1 seed with three weeks to
play. The win was New England’s second-consecutive home shutout
victory and marks the fourth home game in a row where Bruschi and the
Patriots have not allowed a touchdown – the longest such streak since
the 1938 New York Giants, who went on to win the NFL Championship that
year.
With
his game-clinching interception return for a touchdown, Bruschi became
the first player in NFL history to return four consecutive interceptions
for touchdowns.
“Tedy’s
play there was one of the all-time greatest individual plays I’ve ever
seen,” says Patriots linebacker LARRY IZZO. “It took a lot of
athletic ability. To be able to snag the ball like that when he was
about five feet away from the quarterback, and it's not like the guy is
lobbing a little softball at you, either – it just shows what kind of
athlete he is.”
In
his eighth season from Arizona, this is Bruschi’s second Player of the
Week Award of the season (Week 2) and the second of his career. The
San Francisco native is the first AFC player to win the weekly defensive
honor twice this season.
Indianapolis’
Vanderjagt continued his flawless season in helping the Colts win on the
road to sweep Tennessee with a 29-27 victory. Vanderjagt, who has
made his past 37 field goal attempts, was a perfect five-for-five in
field goals and two-for-two in extra points to account for 17 of his
team’s points. The win earned Indianapolis sole possession of
first place in the AFC South (10-3).
Vanderjagt
was successful from 21, 35, 36, 23, and 26 yards. Trailing 10-3 at
the end of the first quarter, the Oakville, Ontario, Canada native
responded to account for all of the game’s second-quarter scoring with
three field goals for a 12-10 Indianapolis lead at halftime. The
Colts never fell behind from that point forward.
“I
think our team has learned that if you get in tight games and you play
good teams, all the points matter,” says Colts head coach TONY DUNGY.
“If you can get down there, get three, not turn it over and not come
away empty, you’re going to be in good shape.”
Vanderjagt
needs only three more field goals to set an NFL record for most made in a
season (OLINDO MARE, 39, Miami, 1999).
In
his sixth year from West Virginia, this is Vanderjagt’s fifth-career
Player of the Week Award. Vanderjagt also was named AFC Special
Teams Player of the Month for November last week.
Other

-
Pittsburgh
running back JEROME BETTIS, who posted a season-high 106 rushing yards
