The Biggest ever Stampede Cup is Saturday July 4 in Calgary!
This year will see the Calgary Kangaroos, the Calgary Bears, the Burnaby Eagles, the Vancouver Cougars/Saints and a new Edmonton team with some help from the Calgary Chieftains Gaelic team compete for The Stampede Cup. The womens teams from Calgary and the Edmonton Emu's will also be playing games. This is the biggest Aussie Rules Footy tournament of the year in Calgary. The huge say of footy starts at 9.30am at the Saints Rugby Field in Calgary's NE. Directions: Go North on Deerfoot Trail then turn right at 32 Ave NE. Turn right again at 12 Street NE and follow it around until you see the Saint's field or the Polish community centre.
BL&GFA, South Gawler Lions defeat Freeling Redlegs! Part of In the Lions Den from President Percey!
"South Gawler Football Club traveled to Freeling last Saturday and returned with five good wins, a clean sweep. Freeling had a clean sweep on Friday night when the Under 9s and Under 11s played but the players always enjoy themselves and the coaches are very pleased with their attitude and development.
The Denron Metals A grade prevailed with the last kick of the day to win what was probably the battle for bottom position. Clubman Brenton Craigs kick was straight and true after the final siren to seal a very competitive and exciting game with many fine juniors playing for both teams. For South Gawler it was good to see Under 17 Tom Hopgood playing A grade and excellent that three 18 year olds in Shaun Lay, Jackson Dare and Sam Thomas made the A grade best players. Hopefully the juniors of both clubs will quickly develop and both clubs will play an even more exciting grand final in not too many years to come." Jim Callander
Sad news as Ross Hogan a former Pt Adelaide Magpie, Sth Gawler Lion and Port Districts player crosses to the other side!
Known as Hoges, Ross came to Adelaide from Cummins and played very good football for the SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies Under 17's, Under 19's and Reserves. I had the pleasure of being great friends with Ross during this time as we did our apprenticeship together at GMH. I believe Ross could have quite easily had a very successful SANFL League career as a defender at any of the other 9 SANFL clubs in the 80's and early 90's. The Magpies were very strong club during Ross's time there. Ross then went and played great football for the South Gawler Lions and thus became great friends with many of my mates from this very successful club. Ross's A Grade footy career was unfortunately cut short after being beaten up in a Adelaide nightclub during his time at South Gawler.
I found out today that the Chapel was full and about 200 mates were standing outside listening on speakers. Three of his mates read out stories while many stories about him from all parts of his life were shared. A lot of Port Adelaide Magpies people were in attendance. RIP Hoges you Champ!
The Calgary Kangaroos defeated the Calgary Bears in game 2 of the 09 season!
In a full 18 a side game the Calgary Kangaroos 7-10 = 52 defeated the Calgary Bears 6-9 = 45. It was a good surprise to see Brad Flower again playing for the Calgary Kangaroos, his 1st appearance in 09.

I'll be there watching on Saturday at the Saints' Rugby Club, 1500 30th Avenue N.E. a 2pm start. Playing across the 2 rugby fields thus a full size Aussie footy field is the best field that we have ever had in Calgary. This year the Bears will be coached by new in 09 David Rowe while the Kangaroos will be coached also by new in 09 Dane Rolfe.

"The week South Gawler play Willaston at the Den in a continuing tradition that now spans 120 years. Its always a big day and this Saturday will be no exception - especially for the Lions Denron Metals A-grade. The South Gawler Football Club A grade will put twenty one players on the ground who are expected to play the Donnybrooks with desperation, pride and teamwork in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd. The players must give an extraordinary 110% effort for our club and leave nothing on the oval for their own and their club sakes. The supporters need to give 110% commitment for our team off the ground proudly, loudly and enthusiastically. This week could be start of many Grand Finals this season for the Lions and needs to treated as such by the whole club.
The big game will be played in front of many Past Players who are returning to the Den for the now traditional luncheon. They include members of 1959, 1969, 1979 and 1999 Premiership teams who will be looking forward to seeing the current crop of Lions carry on their proud tradition. The players include Noel Kellond and Tony Collins who are returning from the Northern Territory, Guy and Yves Sibenaler from Melbourne and Andrew McDonald from Perth. Lunch will start at noon and will cost $25. Thanks to the Willaston Hotel, The Exchange and The Kingsford Hotel for their sponsorship of what is always an excellent social event to which every one is invited.
Congratulations to clubman Tyson ‘Freddy’ Bowden who made his A grade debut last week – great to see. Last weeks Player Auction was very good with last years total being exceeded. Thanks to all concerned. This weeks “Kingsford Hotel’ Club Person of the Week is Paul Mann. Paul is probably not noticed by many but is a valued volunteer who forms an important part of the senior coaching panel. His dedication is such that he returns from interstate at his own expense so he can contribute and support in a quiet, intelligent and valued manner.
It should be a great day of country sport this Saturday at the Den and all Lions are strongly urged to make the effort to attend and support our club. Either way it will be season defining for the A grade who will need to treat it as such. They need to stand up, show passion, pride and desperation especially in front of the past players who will expect nothing less. Its time for the 2009 Lions to make their own history and up to all those off the ground to support them. The Calgary Kookaburras the 08 USA/Nth American Women's Champions started their 09 season on Saturday! The 'Downunder Travel' Alberta Footy Schools Program!
Wow! There are seriously lots of Kookaburra's in Calgary. I was very impressed at how happy and the great energy that the Kooka's had Saturday night at their Jersey Presentation night after they played Rd 1 of their 09 Aussie Rules Footy season on Saturday. The Kooka's that were started in 07 by Jake Anson have had amazing growth. This year the Edmonton Emu's have formed coached by Tristan Waldock making Alberta the definte leaders in Women's Aussie Footy in Canada and the USA.
They have also started a Junior program called the The 'Downunder Travel' Alberta Footy Schools Program where the Kooka's headed by Amanda O'Rea will be teaching Aussie Rules Footy to guys and girls in schools in Alberta in the upcoming weeks. From Fri May 8. The Calgary Kookaburras the 08 US/Nth American Women's Champions start their 09 season this Saturday!
I'm looking forward to watching the Kookaburras on Saturday play their 1st games of the 09 season. Jake Anson was saying this week that they had 40 women at training this week. Amazing growth. The games will be played this Saturday from 12 noon to 4.30pm at the Queen Elizabeth Elementary School located at 402 18th St NW in Calgary. I'll then be attending their jersey presentation function that night which I believe will be another well organized and enjoyable event.

This is I believe the 1st time that I have written anything negative in regards to Australian Rules Football in the past 8 years. I must report this though.
Very sad this. A image on the Torquay Tigers website made the talk Friday on The Jim Rome show that goes to approximately 5 million USA and CDN sports listeners. As soon as I heard Jim mention Australian Rules Football I was very excited but then to hear him talk about this for about 5 min's was shocking and I was really annoyed and upset.
I bet guys like Paul O'Keeffe that started US Footy and who has done many years of hard work growing the game in the USA would be very disappointed that Australian Rules Football made news to approx 5 million USA and CDN listeners in this disgraceful way. Along with guys like Mark Block, Stuart Grills, Chris Freeman and many more who have done massive amounts of work growing the game in Canada.

Jim Rome is the Biggest and in my opinion equal Best sports radio guy in the World. I've been lucky enough to get on his show including talking Aussie Rules Footy and NFL etc and have met him at a Super Bowl week in the media centre.
This shows how careful everyone has to be in this new media age that this made it to 5 million listeners on Friday.

From Saturday March 28. The 09 NWPAFL Western Canada season starts today! 5 teams in 09! The new Over 40 Aussie/CDN rule!
The NWPAF 09 season gets underway today with the BC Footy League being expanded to 5 teams in 09. The North Delta Bay Hawks and the Irish Harps are the two new teams joining last year’s newcomers the West Coast Saints. The Burnaby Eagles were formed in 05 while the Vancouver Cougars were formed around the start of the century. This year the NWPAFL has made a rule that means Aussies that are over 40 years young will qualify as a CDN/Non Aussie in the 50/50 playing rules. A interesting nice rule. Maybe this will mean a 08 Calgary Bears player again playing some games ater in the season for the Burnaby Eagles in 09.

Stewy Grills to coach the new Irish Harps team in the expanding NWPAFL, Western Canada!
I was talking with Stewy Grills "Mr BC Footy" this week in regards to the Nth American/CDN National Australian Football Club Championships and I was informed that in 09 Stewy is coaching one of the two new teams in the BC Footy league this year, the Irish Harps. Stewy is one of the initial founders of BC Footy, the initial coach and thus one of the initials players for the Vancouver Cougars.

Alberta Footy news! Will the Calgary Roo's/Bears be sending a ful team to the BC Footy Cup on April 25? James "Boof" Lay returning to the Calgary Kangaroo's! Calgary Kookaburra's Women's Footy news!
With the very early in the season BC Footy Cup being scheduled for April 25 in Vancouver will the current holders of the prestigious "BC Footy Cup/Smelly Boot" the Calgary Roo's/Bears be sending a full team. For several reasons I'm a little concerned that a full squad won't be going.
Again last night we had approximatey 150cm of snow here in Calgary thus the Roo's/Bears are still weeks away from training outdoors and as yet no indoor training sessions have been taking place. The economy and cost in getting to Vancouver could also unfortunatey influence some players from making the trip. I'm hoping for Western Canadian Footy's growth sake that the Roo's/Bears do send a team to Vancouver for the BC Footy Cup.
James "Boof" Lay one of the original founders of the Calgary Kangaroo's is returning to Calgary for the 09 season. Boof was here in 08 for a week or two and played well in a game for the Calgary Kangaroo's. Good luck to Boof this 09 season.
The Calgary Kookaburra's the Womens team here in Calgary and the 08 US Natl's Women's Champions continue to grow. They have been training indoors since Jan 22 mainly at the Oylmpic Stadium running facility. They also have regular social and fundraising events. In 09 a women's team has been formed in Edmonton called the Edmonoton Emu's. An excellent Alberta Women's Footy schedule has been organized in 09. From Sat Jan 31. Ben Graham of the Arizona Cardinals a former
Australian Football League player will be
the 1st Aussie I believe to ever play in a Super Bowl!
Although Ben did not have a great game in the NFC Conference
Championship he should be the 1st Aussie to ever play in a Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl is this Sunday. Ben was a great player for the Geelong Cats in the AFL Australian
Football League and then played for the New York Jets in the NFL before the Cardinals in 08-09. Good luck to Ben and the Cardinals who I will be going for in

Ruwoldt, aka Rooey one of the original Baltimore/Washington Eagles!
Sad news today
about one of the original Baltimore/Washington Eagles players passing
away.
From the Baltimore/Washington Eagles. "A player from
1999 thru 2002. Paul Ruwoldt
passed away on Friday
afternoon. Paul was diagnosed with melanoma
last Christmas, it was stage
four at that time (stage 4 is the final
stage where the cancer has
moved into the body). He spent 2008 trying
various treatments. There
are no FDA approved treatments of melanoma
that work. Paul had tried
one trial last year. He went up to the
University of Pittsburgh
Medical Center 2 weeks ago to begin a new
trial. Upon admissions tests
showed that the cancer had spread
further than anticipate. He
never started the trial, instead had some
surgery.
He passed Friday night, January 23rd."

Footy Western Canada, the Burnaby Eagles have 25 at their 2nd training
session of 09!
Chris Freeman the President of the Burnaby Eagles advised me today
that the Burnaby Eagles had 25 players at their 2nd training run of the
year. Chris is very excited about the appointment of Matt Bell the new
coach of the Burnaby Eagles. I was chatting with Matt recently. Matt is
from Adelaide and he also spent time working for the AFL in their Sydney
office before playing for the Eagles in 08.
The Calgary Kookaburra's Women's team and 08 US Natl's Women's Champions started
training tonight!

punters go head to head in this Sunday's NFLC Championship game as former
AFL Geelong Cats star Ben Graham punts for the Arizona Cardinals against
former AFL Collingwood Magpie and North Melbourne Kangaroo Sav Rocca of
the Philadelphia Eagles. I believe it will be Sav Rocca going to the
Super Bowl with the Eagles and I believe he will be the 1st Aussie to
ever play in a Super Bowl.

Footy which is Vancouver CDN and area to have 5 teams in 09!
Aussie Rules Footy
in British Columbia is exploding. In 05 the Burnaby Eagles formed from
the Vancouver Cougars. In 08 the West Coast Saints were formed and now in
09 the Delta Hawks AFC is confirmed as are the Irish Harps AFC. They are
scheduling to have 5 teams this season. This news came to me from Mr BC
Footy Stuart Grills last night. Amazing growth. I know CN Northwind coach
Mark "Flash" Block will be they happy with this news. Based in
Delta which is 1/2 hr drive South of Vancouver, BC Footy has I believe
the largest Junior competition outside of Australia. In Oct 08 the
Vancouver BC footy team won Div 1 of the US National Championship in
Colorado Springs. Refer below.

On Wednesday night I attended the Calgary Kangaroo's and Calgary Bears 1st meeting
of 09. 08 was the best year so far as we obtained the use of the Saints
Rugby fields which gave use for the 1st year a excellent full size field.
Some of these games were 16 a side which was awesome. In 09 the Roo's and
Bears will continue to train together but are aiming on playing all games
with 18 a side again on the Saints Rugby fields. Brad Flower will be the
overall coach of both teams and play for the Roos while I believe Joffa
Allen will again be the Bears coach in 09 with assistance from CDN
Northwind player Gareth Williams and Rob Medley who comes from Perth
Australia. It will be Rob's 3rd year as a Calgary Bear.
South Gawler Football
Club which is in the BL&GFA Barossa Light and Gawler competition in
South Australia. A

"The seniors have started training at the Den on Mondays, Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 6pm. Players should bring running shoes and boots, sun
protection and arrive at training hydrated. Contact Senior Coach Damien
Herzick on 0412 978 055 or Football Manager Matt Trimboli on 0414 390 300
with any issues. Welcome to our new Reserves Coach Luke McCracken. A
excellent training regime has been arranged including fitness guru Craig
Icky – a big asset! If last Thursday is any indication when 40 plus
players trained with a great attitude and atmosphere we are going to have
a good time this year on and off the field.

to our new players – Damien and Matt have done a great job with
recruiting. Welcome to our progressing players from Under 17s – you are
our future and we are very proud of you!
Its up to all Lions to be inclusive of these guys – introduce your self
and make them all welcome.

and respect you and your loyalty.
The
Under 17s led by new coach and loyal clubman Steve Nicolai start training
at the Den on 27/1/09 from 6pm but are more than welcome to join the
seniors in the meantime.
The Under 15s start training on 3/2/09 from
5pm under 2008 Premiership coach Grant O’Reilly (phone 0431 965 465).
Grant is a proven coach who places a real emphasis on player development.
South
Gawler is very fortunate to have obtained the services of Robert Errigo
(phone 0419 898 658) as 2009 Under 13s coach – welcome! The Under 13s
start training on 17/3/09 from 4pm but if they cant wait are welcome to
train with the Under 15s.

Congratulations to Joel Chapman who has
been selected in the 2009 CDFC Under 15s Academy squad. The

08 US Natl's MYKwebTV has been been delayed!
Unfortunately my 5 Part MYKwebTV series from the recent 08 US Natl's in Colorado
Springs has been delayed by a week. My editing equipment needed to go to Toronto
for repair. The reason I added the TotalCFL TV from last Thursday as seen above
before the 08 US Natl's MYKwebTV was because the CFL side on my business makes
me money while promoting Australian Rules Football costs me money. That said I
will continue hopefully for many years to come to keep producing CDN and USA
Aussie Rules Football MYKwebTV as it's the best game in the World to play and I
think it is amazing how Aussie Rules Footy is growing at a rapid pace overseas. Interesting though is I now
have 2 paid advertisers on this section of MYKwebWORLD.

footage from US Natls as yet as someone has borrowed/stolen/hidden the
