2008 CFL
Daft approaching! University of Ottawa Gee Gees!
This
was sent to me today from Douglas Falconer President/CEO from Pacific Media
Entertainment. I thought it was good content to add here.
"With
the 2008 CFL draft fast approaching, I thought you might enjoy this.
The 1975 University of Ottawa Gee Gees left the greatest legacy in Canadian
college football history. The 75 Gee Gees were the first undefeated team in
Vanier Cup history. 21 players from the 1975 Vanier Cup team would go on to be
selected in the CFL draft. 12 of the 21 draftees would go on to play in the CFL.
Collectively they played in the CFL for 96 years. They appeared in 23 Grey Cup
games and collected 12 Grey Cup rings. The team included a CFL Hall of Famer, a
Grey Cup MVP & 2 CFL Rookie of the Year selections. Players from the 75
Vanier Cup Championship team were selected as CFL or CFL divisional all-stars 20
times during their professional careers." Best, Doug

Salzer
I have no idea where I will run
into ex-CFL or ex-CIS players, but I made quite a find on the road
recently covering an Af2 game in Birmingham, Alabama. Who out there remembers
Jaden Volchoff of Tennessee St and Saint Mary's University of Halifax? He plays
now for the Birmingham Steeldogs of Af2.
The Jaden Volchoff File: OLm, 6' 4.5" Height, 310 lbs. Weight. Has started
10 games for the Steeldogs so far this year. Helped Birmingham to a 6-4 record
in the 10 games he's started. Hopes to get into the CFL after the Af2 season is
over. He knows Pinball Clemons and Chris Schultz of TSN, who has taken him out
to tutor him on occasion. Jaden's father Terry runs a
roofing
business back in Dundas, Ontario (call: 1-905-627-0126). I will be traveling up
to Dundas later this year, if things go right to see the Volchoff's who I hit it
off with right away. Keep your eyes peeled for Jaden Volchoff, possibly coming
soon to a CFL team near you!" Moose Salzer

I am here working @ the Internet Café in
Vancouver, the leafs are falling and it’s getting colder. Yep it must be Nov.
and another Grey Cup is upon us. The Vanier Cup a-comin’ too. Next year the
Vanier is in Saskatoon, which is fitting since the Huskies (yawn) are going back
to another Vanier Cup after having
defeated the Laval Rouge et Or, 29-27, ending
the Rouge et Or’s CIS record19 game winning streak on
Saturday. Once again, the Mitchell Bowl Final:
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies 29, Laval 27.
In the Eastern Uteck Bowl, the University of
Wilfred Laurier Hawks beat the Acadia Axmen, 31-10.
So in the Vanier Cup on December 5th, @ Hamilton’s Ivor Wynn
Stadium it’ll be the Unviersity of Saskatchewan @ Saskatoon v. Wilfred
Laurier. Moose’s Pick: Saskatoon 34, Wilfred Laurier 28. Good luck boys. And
bundle up!" Moose

this week, @ 2 a.m., EST,

Rouge et Or v. the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the Vanier Cup
for the Canadian University Championship. Laval finished the regular season,

The
Rouge et Or crushed the Carbains of Montreal, 54-7 last weekend. In other
CIS games, Sherbrooke, once a New doormat (lost there first game ever,
79-0 to Univ. of Montreal), beat Bishop's Gaiters, 28-10 to finish with
their first winning season ever.

"Laval
to Battle the 'other' Huskies for the Vanier Cup this Saturday at Ivor
Wynne Stadium, in one of my favorite CFL cities, Hamilton. Me
and Myk's buddy Matthew Leblanc, who lead team Canada in American
Football in San Diego @ Super Bowl XXXVII two Januaries ago,
again started for the Gold and Red (i.e. Rouge et Or) of Laval along
with Mexican running back Jeroninmo Huerta-Flores, who also played
for team Mexico as Laval beat Wilfred Lauier, 30-11.
In the Mitchell Bowl, the
University of Saskatchewan beat the 'other' Huskies, Saint Mary's of Halifax
(sorry, no CFL team - yet), 31-16. Flores and
Leblanc both are used as punters for Laval and the biggest play
of their Uteck Bowl game was his 30 yard fake-punt pass and his
42 yard reception for a touchdown. I predicted in San Diego in January
'03 this kid will be a top pick in the CFL draft in '05 and I believe
he will. Hopefully the Roughriders will get him! Steve Bilan, the
most heralded QB in Canadian University ball (and an almost sure
Hec Crieghton Award winner!) threw 4 TDs for the Huskies of
Saskatchewan as they rolled over two-time 21st century Vanier Cup
winners, St. Mary's. Bilan and University of Hawai'i pivot Timmy Chang
have the most TD passes in Nrth. American University Footie in

the team leaves for Ottawa tomorrow for Friday nights must win game. The Stamps
have one of the few Stadiums in the CFL that shares itself with a CIS team.
The SkyDome will maybe for the last time be home to the Georges Vanier Cup, Nov.
22nd, 2003. The game is a week after the Nov. 16th, 91st Grey Cup in Regina.
Originally the game was to be the Saturday before the Grey Cup, but an
Agriculture Show in Regina moved the G.C. back one week.
The other two wins by Calgary U. this season have been over University of
Alberta Golden Bears, who were coached by ex-Toronto and Edmonton Grey Cup (8

came one week ago v. the Univ. of British Columbia Thunderbirds. The Dinos are
