spread. Mike Cole the Barman is still leading I believe but I'm determined
to make up some ground. There are some real Sports Legends in this
competition so
it's tough.

In
Memoriam: Former San Francisco 49er / New Orlean Saints and San Antonio-Ar.FL
Coach Dick Nolan, who won 104 games in his 14 year Pro Coaching career
died at aged 75 in his home with his family around him. Nolan, Sr. was
the father of current San Francisco Coach Mike Nolan, now in his third
year of his Pro Head Coaching career. The senior Nolan coached the 49ers
from 1968-77. He then Coched the Saints from 1978-80. He became G.M.-Coach
of the expansion San Antonio-Ar.FL team in 1992.
He had to step down after a bout with cancer the first time following the
2-8-0, '92 season. Nolan had been shunned by the NFL in recent years and
was a strong critic of the league and was a vocal supporter of the Ar.FL
in recent decades. Dick Nolan took five 49er teams to the playoffs and
was 5-5
in NFL Playoff games. R.I.P

Hottest
Teams Now Dept: Everybody should know the only undefeated team left in
the NFL is the New England Patriots (9-0-0), but the Pittsburgh Stealers
deserve a note too. They beat two teams in the last six days(!);
Baltimore, 38-7 on Monday night [see Milestone below] and the upstart
Cleveland Browns, barely (!), 31-28 on Sunday. They were assisted by
Cleveland Coach (Carl) Romeo Crenell, Sr., who blew two time outs in the
final 1:51 of the game by challenging two calls that were somewhat
questionable. In the NFL, as most know, you lose a timeout if you
challenge and lose the official's call.
Milestones - Team: Pittsburgh QB Big Ben Roethlisberger tied four-time
Super Bowl QB Terry Bradshaw's team record of 5 TDs passes in a game in
the win over the Ravens last Monday night. Congrats to Big Ben."

From
Mon Nov 5, NFL Media.
Baltimore Ravens (4-3) at Pittsburg Steelers (5-2) on Monday night, ESPN,
8:30 PM ET. STORYLINE:
The No-Love-Lost Bowl.
“The
feeling’s mutual: they don’t like us, and we don’t like them,” says
Pittsburgh WR
HINES WARD
of AFC North-rival Baltimore. “There’s no need to hide it. They know it
and we know it. The Steelers definitely know it after being swept by the
Ravens last year. Baltimore’s league-best defense limited Pittsburgh to
one TD in the two games (winning 27-0 and 31-7), while posting 14 sacks
to the Steelers’ none. OK, that was last year. Now the Steelers rank
third in the NFL in net-point differential (plus-93) behind only the
Patriots and Colts and boast the top rushing game in the league, led by
WILLIE PARKER.
With five 100-yard games so far -- the most by anyone this season --
Parker sits second in the league in rushing yards (726). Third?
WILLIS MC GAHEE
of the Ravens with 639.
Who’ll
prevail? Pittsburgh has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in a league-best 28
consecutive games…the Ravens limited Parker to two of his three lowest
rushing outputs last year – 22 and 29 yards. Monday night celebration:
The Steelers, in their throwback uniforms with yellow helmets, will
salute their All-Time Team in this, their 75th season." This is direct

Honourable Mention: Drew Brees, QB, New Orlean and Antonio Cromartie, CB,

There is no doubt by any
sane person that New England would have to be the class of the league
after they trashed a pretty good Washington squad by 45 points. I think
the game v. Indianapolis will tell a lot. Tom Brady is on pace to beat
the P. Manning of 49 TDs in an outdoor Pro league season.
Brady has 28 TDs right
now, which is pretty scary and their only half way through the
regular season.
As much as some have hyped Randy Moss, it's actually Mike Vrabel and Wes
Welker that have shone most brightly for the Pats so far. The incredible
Mike Vrabel, the versatile jack-of-all trades had, get this (!): three
sacks, two pass breakups and another catch for, you guessed it; another
TD. He's now 10-for-10 on catches to TDs in his remarkable career. Moss
is tied for most TDs in the league - so far. But 'lil Wes Welker has 18
more catches on the season and has emerged as Tom Terrific's 'Mr. Hands.'
If it wasn't for ex-Hawai'i K Jason Elam Denver would be 0-8. Their three
wins have all come on his foot" Moose Salzer

Week 7 Score:
Colts 29 def Jag's 9.
Me vs Moose in NFL tipping!
In week 7 I tipped 9 straight up and 7 against the
spread.
So after 7 Weeks straight
up I am on 66. In Week 7 Moose tipped 8 and is now on 54 straight up.
After a few years absence I am this year happy to be in Wally's Honeys
which is now Wally's Rush Hour Sports Bar in Calgary, their NFL Footy picks
against the spread competition. After 7 Weeks I am on a average 44 against the
spread. Mike Cole the Barman was winning after Week 6 but I'm determined
to make up some ground. There are some real Sports Legends in this
competition so it's tough.
From Mon Oct 22. NFL Report! Week 7
Scores, Stats, Milestones and Accomplishments! The great Phil Simms! Week 8 Picks by Rich Salzer with input from Hank O'Toole
and Michele DeWalt!
Week 7 Scores:
Chicago 19,
Philadelphia 16
Washington 21, Arizona 19
Seattle 33, Saint Louis 6
Detroit 23, Tampa Bay 16
Kansas City 12, Oakland 10
New England 49, Miami 28
Dallas 24, Minnesota 14
Cincinnati 38, N.Y. Jets 31
New Orlean 22, Atlanta 16
Buffalo 19, Baltimore 14
Tennessee 38, Houston 36
N.Y. Giants 33, San Francisco 15
NFL Week Seven Notes /
Milestones:
Tennessee K Rob (My) Bironas set the all-time Pro Football record with
8-8 FGs in the Titans win over stubborn Houston, who has now lost three
in a row. QB Matt Schaub was hurt, slightly but should be back next week
for Houston. Bironas broke his old record of 7-7 in FGs in the Ar.FL.
In relief of the game
above, backup QB Sage Rosenfels tied the NFL all-time record (Dave Krieg
and Jeff George) for TDs in an NFL game qtr; Rosenfels threw four fourth
quarter TDs and one tw-pt. convert in the Texans narrow loss.**
Kansas City RB Priest
Holmes had a gutsy and respectable comeback for the Chiefs in their 12-10
win over Oakland. Four carries, a 1st down, nine yards and one catch for
8 yds. Welcome back, Priest. Holmes had the most spectacular run I've
ever seen in the six-going-on-seven Pro Bowls I've been to in '02!
Week Seven Game Balls:
1) Sage Rosenfels, QB, Houston
2) Tom Brady, QB, New England
3) Wes Welker, WR-KR, New England
4) Rob (My) Bironas, K, Tennessee
5) Brian Griese, QB, Chicago
Honourable Mention: Tim Rattay, QBs, Arizona, Washington LB London
Fletcher.
NFL
Great Profile: Phil Simms, N.Y. Giants two-time Super Bowl QB.
Phil Simms was
born in Turkey Neck Bend, KY in Aug. 1957. He was the top draft pick of
the New York Giants in 1979. He beat out former CFL Calgary standout Joe
Pisarcik in game six of the 1979 season. He won an NFL tying six straight
games to start his Pro Football career. Despite some injuries and a spat
with Coach Bill Parcells that lead to Parcells benching him one season
(3-12-1, 1983 in which Parcells almost was fired!), Simms
and Parcells were able to lead the New York / New Jersey Giants to two
Super Bowl wins.
It was the defining 23 of
26 performance for 388 yds., 3 TDs and O sacks, 0 fumbles, 0 INTs that
will forever etch Simms name to NFL Super Bowl QBing greatness. Simms
simply had the greatest QBing performance in NFL history. Nobody has come
close yet. For his career, Simms, father of injured Buccs QB Chris Simms,
passed for 33,870 yds., 200 TDs and played all 15 seasons for the Giants,
and in 1994 when new Giants Coach Dan Reeves tried to trade him to
Cleveland. Simms is now one of the very best announcers in the league but
shockingly is not in the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame. That plus Art Monk's
annual snub are two black eyes on the league. Don't look now, but whether
Chris ever makes it back to the league or not is irrelevant as Phil and
Diane Simms have two more boys finishing their New Jersey High School
Football careers and will be in College soon also. Thanks for the
memories, Phil, you were one great QB. And the best in New York
Giants history!" Moose

Week 6 Scores:

Arizona 10
Jacksonville 37, Houston 7
Baltimore 22, Saint Louis 3
Philadelphia 16, N.Y. Jets 9
New Orlean 28, Seattle 17
Tampa Bay 13, Tennessee 10
Green Bay 17, Washington 14
Kansas City 27, Cincinnati 20
Minnesota 34, Chicago 31
San Diego 28, Oakland 14
N.Y. Giants 31, Atlanta 10
Despite the win in Seattle on Sunday night 'ball, the Saints are along
way from Valhalla! I never realized how much starch the S'Aint's would
get taken out of their sails with RB Duce McAlister out for the
year with knee surgery (and welcome back Priest Holmes!) and losing WRs
Joe (CFL-cellphone) Horn [Atlanta] and Donte Stallworth (New England)
gone from the big easy this year. Reggie Bush has too much on his plate
this year with just playing RB. He was better as a 'slash' last year.
New Updated TE's List:
Top Five TEs in NFL history: (1) John Mackey, Baltimore Colts, (2) Mike
Ditka, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, (3) Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City
Chiefs, (4) Shannon Sharpe, Denver, Baltimore Ravens, (5) Mike Vrabel,
New England Patriots (9 for 9 for 9TDs on his career!), Pittsburgh
Steelers.
New All-time Greatest QBs:
(1) John Elway, Denver. (2) Dan Marino, Miami, (3) Joe Montana, Kansas
City, San Francisco, (4) Phil Simms, N.Y. Giants, (5) Warren Moon,
Edmonton (CFL), Houston Oilers-Minnesota-Seattle-Kansas City [NFL], (6)
Tom Brady, New England, (7) Doug Flutie, New Jersey (USFL), B.C.
Lions-Calgary-Toronto (CFL), Chicago-New England-Buffalo-San Diego [NFL],
(8) Johnny Unitas, Baltimore (real) Colts, San Diego, (9) Russ Jackson,
Ottawa Rough Riders (CFL), (10) Otto Graham, Cleveland Browns [AAFC-NFL]...Notice
obviously that Tom Brady has moved up. If anybody has seen him play this
year, he's as good as Kurt Warner (#15 on my list), Elway, Marino, Unitas,
et, al have ever been as US Pro QBs. I unashamedly place three ex-CFL'r's
here because Moon, Flutie and Jackson, the only canadian on the list
could kick almost any one who ever played right off the planet. Also in
my top 20 are two great Ar.FL'r's namely Warner, who dominated two
leagues, just like Moon and Jay Gruden, the only QB to go 4-0 in four
ArenaBowls. Yea, 'lil Gruden got a sip of coffee from the NFL / CFL / NFL
E but he cut his teeth in the Arena league and so did Warner. Both
were/are better than Brett Favre! Brett's still in my top 20, even though
he's an INT machine (second all-time to Ron Lancaster, followed closely
by - Danny McManus!). Gruden won four ArenaBowls in his first six years!
Milestones in the NFL this week!
Kansas City TE Tony Gonzalez is now the NFL's alltime leader in TD
catches for the position breaking Shannon Sharpe's record. He better
watch out for Mike Vrabel who is catching up too (sort of kidding).
Team record: Tom Brady,
who has thrown 4 TDs in a game more times than any QB in New England
history, is now the first in team history to throw five in a game." Moose

Chicago OVER Minnesota. Bears I think but

Baltimore OVER Saint Louis. Ravens
straight up but I don't think they will cover the 9.5 spread.

Cincinnati OVER Kansas City Bengals but

Tampa Bay OVER Tennessee O.T. This is the

Houston OVER Jacksonville. Jags but Moose
maybe correct on this one. I'll go for the Texans against
the spread of 6.5.
Arizona OVER Carolina, O.T. Cardinals.
Panthers in all sorts of QB injury trouble. Kurt Warner should impress after

1) Tom Brady, QB, New England
2) Kenton Keith, RB, Indy Colts
3) Brian Leonard, RB, Saint Louis
4) Wes Welker, WR-PR/KR, New England
5) Jason Campbell, QB, Washington
Honourable Mention, the week before: Seattle Coach Mike Holmgren for 150 wins in
his 16 year NFL Coaching career, plus, Matt Schaub, QB and Kris Brown, K,
Houston.
NFL Profile: Jeff Rutledge. Jeffrey Ronald Rutledge of Scotch-Irish/Creek Indian
background from Alabama was the leading winner in QBs in Alabama history until
his W-L record was broken by CFL'r Jim
Barker's son, Jay in the 1990's. Rutledge was considered by most to be one of
the best backup QBs in NFL history along with Buffalo's Frank Reich and Denver's
Gary Kubiak. Rutledge played for three NFL teams during his 14-year career and
set several unusual records:
1) He's the only QB to play in three Super Bowls for three different teams; the
L.A. Rams ('79), N.Y. Giants behind the great Phil Simms ('86) and Washington
('91) behind Canadian QB Mark Rypien (Calgary and Red Deer, Alberta).;
2) He made one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history in S.B. XXI, when
subbing for a red-hot Phil Simms (who still holds the record for SBs with 23 of
26 passing for 388 yds, 3 TDs and 0 sacks, INTs or fumbles). He came in on
fourth down and on a fake punt, moved up to the Centre, took the handoff
and dove for a short two-yard gain and a first down to break open a tough game
between the G-Men
and the Broncos in John Elway's first of a record FIVE Super Bowl appearances
(which has still not been broken!). The Giants won, 39-20.;
3) In a game for Washington, v. Detroit in 1990, Rutledge rallied the Redskins
from down, 35-3 to a
41-38, O.T. win. Crucial play; on fourth and ten from the Lions 12-yard line he
called a QB and broke
the run for all 12 yards and a game tying TD that lead Washington to the O.T.
period.;
4) He is considered by most to be the greatest H in Pro Football history with a
mark of 99.25%
accuracy (One muff in all those years of holding). But what has 'Rut' been up to
since he retired
following the 1992 (his last) season? He had been a H.Coach in High School
Football in Tennessee
until this past winter when Coaches Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm, two
ex-teammates from Washington got screwed out of the Head Coaching position in
Pittsburgh, they all three went to turn around the Arizona Cardinals. It was
Rutledge genius to go with the highly successful two-QB system
with stud Kurt Warner and youngster Matt (lefty) Leinart [until Leinart's broken
clavical yesterday]. The Cardinals are 3-0-0 now with Warner/Leinart QB platoon.
Warner, who I thought should have been starting all along, will go it for now
until Leinart is back healthy. Way to go 'Rut'!
Best wishes to all the injured QBs from yesterday to a speedy return: Trent (CFL)
Green, Damon (NFLE) Huard, Leinart.
The worst Offences in Pro Football now? Try New Orlean (surprisingly), Denver
and Saint Louis. Do the Broncos wish they weren't so hasty last year with Jake
Plummer. I believe so. Ditto for the dopey Rams who could still have Kurt Warner
and/or Jamie Martin. Instead they are stuck with Marc (Makapu'u)
Bulger and rusty Gud Frerotte. Yuch! Duce McAlister's injury at Saints has
exposed N.O. as a fluke - so
far. Just don't count any team with Martin and Drew Brees out, yet. The Saints
have already had their
Bye week. Colts still haven't played anybody, besides Houston, who they barely
beat and an 'iffy'
Tampa Bay team, who I don't think is for real." Moose Salzer

So after 4 Weeks straight
up I am on 39. Moose went slightly better in Week 4 and had 7 straight up and is
now on 33 straight up. I am
determined to again this

The Carolina Panthers
with serious injuries at three positions signed two-time Super Bowl
winning TE Christian Fauria to a one-yr., contract. Fauria won one of his
two Super Bowls over the Panthers, 32-29, which was Tom Brady's second
Super Bowl win. The two-QB system of the Arizona Cardinals did a number
on the overrated Pittsburgh Steelers and overrated nobody Coach Mikey
Tomlin. It was the first real NFL action I really watched this year as
surprisingly no Panthers games have been on lately.
San Diego may be having a
bad year ever since they stupidly let Coach Marty Schottenheimer go (for
friggin' Norv [58-85-1?] Turncoat), but don't look now, RB LaDainian
Tomlinson is only one off Walter Payton's mark of 8 option pass TDs for
his career. He's now at seven. Payton threw 7 right-handed and one
left-handed - to Doug Flutie!
More bad news for Denver: The Broncos blew a lead going into the second
quarter and got pummeled by the Colts. Peyton Manning only 3-5-0 v.
Denver lifetime, but I'll give him some credit
he's beaten Denver twice in the playoffs and won all three games in Indy.
Bronco's are now without starting OL Ben Hamilton for the rest of
the year. Is this why they now have to play ex-Omaha Beef'r Chad
Mustard?! Hamilton, who played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL E in
'02-'03 blew ligaments in both his right knee and ankle - in practice
("Practice?!") last week.
More problems for Michael
Vick. He tested positive for marijuana while on probation/suspension.
Speaking of Vick's family, his sister-in-law, who lives in North Carolina
just got hurt in a traffic accident so best wishes to her on a speedy
recovery.
She actually drives a bus
for high school football in N.C. and was hurt Friday night last weekend.
